A’ite, I finally got to do some… more… graphic design/layout! Our firm entered a competition, *scape, and I ended up doing the booklet. (For some reason, “youth” seems to equal “graffiti and skateboarders.”) Here’s some excerpts:
*I didn’t do the location plan (the image in “Urban Considerations”) or the plans (lvls 1-2), except for some minor Photoshopping.

Oh. That’s what you’ve been busy doing. I forgive you. Looks pretty.
Damn awesome!
That’s frickin sweet.. I like the cover a lot, but I’m curious — did you have to pay royalties on those stock photos? Or are they just the results of various GIS searches?
Dammit Kuku, help me with my comp class layout!!!!
graffiti and skateboarding, eh?
is the latter at least legal over there?
Thanks all!
Alf, the thing is that both graffiti and skateboarding are only going to be allowed on specially-designated parts. It’s totally domesticating both, especially graffiti, which should be an act of space appropriation and rebellion. Now it’s just a stereotypical thing “youth” do.
I got the stock photos from sxc.hu and Flickr’s Creative Commons-licensed archive, so they should be clean. It took all day to sift through for the good stuff!
Adora, you guys have a separate comp class? Geez, another reason why Berkeley bites it.
designated graffiti areas? what? as in artists being commissioned to paint murals, or certain blank walls being set aside specifically for tagging on?
Basically, the skateboarding area = the designated graffiti area. Keepin’ the deviants together, I guess.
